But again, Mozilla is not respecting these when they update because they have an agenda to make money now. Script are often the culprit that get new online users in infected. Or things like Script blockers to block all the hundreds of scripts that run in the background. Or Book mark enhancers that let you modify book mark folders with colors or images. #Waterfox profile location freeLike FireFTP, a free FTP program for uploading to a server. But one of the wonderful things about FireFox are the thousands of extensions that give it more capability's. If you're not using extensions, you probably won't notice a difference. They reset your settings when a service pack or path rolls out. #Waterfox profile location windowsThis is exactly what Microsoft does with Windows 10. And the fact that their service ignores user settings to (NOT) update, should really piss people off. With that aside, I guess the biggest complaint I have with FireFox is that they keep breaking extension compatibility with almost every update. The truth is, you'll never get the assurance of true privacy under windows like you will with an open source product like Linux. I've always used IceCat when I've run Debian and Lubuntu, it came with it. Whether they work any better in Waterfox I don't know and am not willing to test but they work for me I just choose not to use them.īut I still think the biggest advantage is that Waterfox is only updated by one person and therefore it only gets the major updates not the stream of updates Firefox used to get which seemed to happen so often that it wasn't unusual to get three updates in a day. I don't use add ons but over the years I have tried different ones for different reasons and while most say they are only written for Firefox they all work in Waterfox because of the backbone being the same. But since Waterfox have now moved to a separate profile it's possible to run the two browsers side by side and not have the bugs from Firefox effect the Waterfox profiles. That sucked for a lot reasons but the biggest one was that no matter how may users you're set up with if one user had a bug in the profile it was shared between the lot. Until the last major update that wasn't possible because both Waterfox and Firefox HAD to share profiles. That had me wondering about using multiple profiles and running Firefox as my secondary browser. #Waterfox profile location driverMoz browsers are the only ones not to be effected by the Intel Video driver issue that creates black screens when switching between open windows which has been bugging me lately. It's been an up and down path, some things work, some things don't, like all browsers it occasionally crashes and like all browsers parts of it can be effected by other crashing programs. My main reasons for moving were to go for a 64bit browser, because I was having issues with Firefox not remembering passwords and I was sick of it updating every time I reopened it. Waterfox has been my choice for about 5 years now. #Waterfox profile location portableI still keep Mozilla Firefox installed, but I've been using WaterFox portable version, and I'm loving it so far. With WaterFox, all my previous extensions (as named above) work great, and the option to (Not-update) holds. I've been burnt multiple times after uninstalling, removing profile folders and reg locations, then reinstalling an old version. Turning off auto update has not worked for me in over a year. Either way, every time they come out with an update now, extensions loose compatibility. To name a few: FireFTP, DownloadThemAll, NoScript. Now since the latest version at this time ( Quantum) Which by the way, was forced on users across the net, almost all the great extensions are not compatible. What made FF great were all the extensions that gave it functionality. They are not respecting backward compatibility of extensions when they make updates which are happening every few weeks. Hello to the new Microsoft.įirefox automatically updates even if you turn off all the updating options as well as the update service. Mozilla developers of Firefox have moved away from respecting user privacy to a total corporatism model of collecting user data and changing our settings without our permission. I just recently started using the fork of FireFox: WaterFox (also in portable ver) to replace Firefox. ![]()
